Growing up in the quiet mountain town of Jeffersonville Vermont, chef Ian Brahmstedt was exposed to the restaurant world from a very early age. His parents owned one of the largest restaurants in the area, the Chez Moustache, where young Ian would sit on the end of the line as his father prepared for dinner service each night. When the restaurant's doors would open and it was time to send young Ian home, he always wanted to stay and work the busy dinner services instead.
In 2002 when Ian enrolled in the New England Culinary Institute, he began taking his own cooking seriously and it wasn't long before he realized there was more to learn outside of the quiet life in Vermont. Chef Ian decided to move to San Francisco to work with one of the Bay Area's finest chefs, Traci de Jardin at restaurant Jardiniere. Here, Ian honed his technical skills and developed a real passion for sourcing the freshest ingredients from local farmers.
After spending several years in California, Ian came back to the North East. He's called New York City home for the last eight years where he's had the fortune of working with some of the finest chefs New York has to offer including Tom Colicchio and Marco Canora. Last year Ian appeared on the program Iron Chef America, with Franklin Becker and Jose Garces. Ian now lives with his wife in Brooklyn and is Sous Chef at the Michelin starred A Voce Columbus in Manhattan.
